Kenya & the East African Community

In the effort to reduce the problems faced by those at the base of the pyramid (poverty or extreme poverty, as defined by the United Nations and World Bank), much of my academic work has been spent using my courses as a social innovation business incubator. Since 2018, my student-scholars in various international business and management classes worked as pro bono consultants to help those in poverty earn an independent income, while addressing or supporting basic human and environmental rights, through the application of course tools and learning objectives. In alignment with stakeholder empowerment guidelines, we routinely worked with community partners to meet their needs as identified by them.

Whisky, Whiskey, Whisk(e)y?

Why whisky? Story time:

I was surfing with a girl friend in Little Compton, Rhode Island, USA – bailing into the water – and my 9’6″ (~290cm) surfboard came around on its leash to smack the daylights out of me clear on the side of the nose. There was a deep thunk but no blood, so I shrugged it off, figured it was fine, and hopped back in to surf another few hours. Fast-forward to the drive home and we discovered I could. not. smell. or. taste. anything. After six months or so, I started to regain those senses when the food and drink that was …um… potent. So that’s why I enjoy whisky!

Suffice it to say, the sample election below are allllllllways hands-on workshops:

Art & Culture

I have been painting consistently since 2020 after a decade of dabbling. Working with acrylics, I paint my emotions in abstract on huge @$$ canvases. Working with watercolor, I paint recognizable images (horses, landscape, my cats (excellent meowdels, if I may say so), cupcakes, flowers). Working with pen and ink, I often casually doodle in my morning pages notebooks. I only recently started working with oil paints, after being too intimidated to try inheriting a fine collection of paints and tools. For myself, I find painting to be meditation in motion.

Some of this sampling is real, some of it is on my horizon to really build:
